Restrepo Co-Director Died in Libya

Tim Hetherington 1970 - 2011

A sudden incident caught the world offguarded, learning that Tim Hetherington, an award-winning photographer and filmmaker, died in Misrata, Libya on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 while doing his multimedia project which features the humanitarian issues during the time of war.

Hetherington is responsible for the documentary film, “Restrepo”, in which he Co-directed it with Journalist, Sebastian Junger. The experimental film chronicles the life of the U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley; no interviews were made in the film, but merely a documentation while US soldiers are in action. The film’s title: Restrepo, is actually named after a platoon medic, Juan Sebastian Restrepo, who was killed in line with his duty. The film won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and was also nominated in the Academy Award.

Restrepo

Over the years, focusing on Humanitarian Issues has been Hetherington’s advocacy. His dedication of wanting to show the world the actual situation through his films and images, makes him a very remarkable man. I admire his passion and courage.
